How much does a laboratory information system cost?
Most LIS vendors publish no price: the figure is quoted after a sales conversation and depends on sites, users, modules and instrument connections. A dated survey records, vendor by vendor, whether a public price exists and the pricing model stated, with the source and date. SamLab publishes every plan in your own currency.

Four ways a LIS is priced
Quote-only
The vendor names a price after a sales conversation. Most enterprise LIS vendors work this way; the figure depends on modules, sites and instruments.
Per-seat or per-site subscription
A recurring fee, usually yearly, sized by users or locations. Predictable, but the total over three years is the number to compare.
Perpetual licence plus support
A one-time licence with a yearly maintenance or support fee on top. Common for locally installed systems.
Published subscription
Every plan on a public page, in your own currency, with a trial. Rare in this category — the survey below shows how rare.
Eight questions that make quotes comparable

Why do LIS vendors hide their pricing?
We can only report what they publish, not why. In practice enterprise pricing is configured per contract — number of sites, interfaces, modules — and the vendor prefers to price the configuration rather than print a list. A buyer can still ask for the unit price of each component in writing.
Is a subscription or a perpetual licence cheaper?
Over one year a perpetual licence usually costs more; over five, a subscription often does. Compare the three-year total including support, interfaces and a second site, not the headline figure.
