LIS Software for US Clinical Laboratories — CLIA & CAP Ready

A laboratory information system built for the records a CLIA survey and a CAP inspection actually ask for — and one that keeps billing and reporting running when the connection does not.

What a US lab is inspected against

Any laboratory testing human specimens for diagnosis, prevention or treatment needs CLIA certification, administered jointly by CMS, the FDA and the CDC. CAP accreditation sits on top of it and requires a valid CLIA certificate first.

CLIA requires proficiency testing twice a year, and instrument validation is reviewed by CMS surveyors on a two-year cycle.

In SamLab: IQC with Levey-Jennings tracking per analyzer, and analyzer profiles that keep method and instrument on the report.

CAP inspects against a checklist of more than 3,000 items, on site every two years, with a documented internal review by the lab in the intervening year.

In SamLab: An audit log of every result change, with the earlier value kept — so a self-inspection can show what changed, when and by whom.

Deficiencies found at inspection must be closed with a documented corrective-action plan.

In SamLab: Result revision history and verification locks, exportable as evidence.

Test results, reports and digital records must meet requirements for traceability and accuracy, and for how data is stored and kept confidential.

In SamLab: Barcoded specimen tracking end to end, role-based access, and local plus encrypted off-site backup.

Runs when the internet doesn’t

Registration, billing, result entry and reports work with the connection down and sync when it returns. Prices are shown in your own currency.

Questions from United States laboratories

Is SamLab CLIA compliant?

Compliance is granted to the laboratory, not to its software — no LIS can be certified under CLIA on your behalf. What SamLab provides is the record-keeping a CLIA survey examines: IQC with Levey-Jennings tracking per analyzer, barcoded specimen traceability from collection through to the report, an audit log of every result change with the prior value retained, and role-based access with local plus encrypted off-site backup.

Does SamLab support a CAP inspection?

CAP inspects on site every two years against a checklist of more than 3,000 items, and expects a documented internal review by the laboratory in the intervening year. SamLab’s audit log and result revision history let that self-inspection show what changed, when and by whom, and export as evidence when a deficiency has to be closed with a documented corrective-action plan.

What happens to our lab if the internet goes down?

Registration, billing, result entry, reporting and analyzer capture all keep working. SamLab runs on a local database on your own machine and syncs when the connection returns — that is the whole design, and it is the difference from a browser-only LIS that stops when your connection does.
