How a Kenyan laboratory is accredited
Kenya separates the two questions cleanly: a national accreditation body judges the laboratory’s technical competence, and it is one of the most established on the continent.
The Kenya Accreditation Service is the national accreditation body, a state corporation established under the Kenya Accreditation Service Act, CAP 496A of the laws of Kenya, under the Ministry of Investments, Industrial Development and Trade.

Questions from Kenya laboratories
Will SamLab get our laboratory KENAS accredited?
No software can. KENAS accredits the laboratory, assessing its people, procedures and records. What SamLab does is produce and retain the records an assessment asks to see — barcoded specimen traceability, IQC with Levey-Jennings and Westgard monitoring, an audit trail, and reports carrying method, units and reference ranges. The quality manual, the competency records and the participation in proficiency testing remain yours.
We have branches outside Nairobi with poor connectivity. Does that work?
Yes, and it is the case SamLab is built for. Each site runs the desktop application against its own local database, so a branch keeps registering patients and printing reports whether or not the link to head office is up. With a cloud tier, branches reconcile centrally when connectivity allows rather than depending on it minute to minute.
What currency are we billed in?
Kenyan shillings are not currently a supported billing currency, so a Kenyan laboratory is quoted and charged in US dollars. We would rather say that plainly than imply a local-currency price that does not exist. Pricing is a yearly subscription with no separate maintenance contract.
